Privacy policy

Lawn Lizard is a product of ChikoUSA. This policy covers thelawnlizard.com and the Lizard Layout Tool on it.

We collect your name, contact details, the design you send and, if you draw one, your property’s location. We do not sell or share them. We keep them as section 5 says.

Sections 2, 3 and 4 describe what we have collected in the last 12 months and what we collect today.

Only what you send us, plus the ordinary record every web server keeps.

• A quote request: your name, your email address, and if you fill them in, your phone number and your notes. The notes are a free text box, so whatever you write in it comes to us as you wrote it.
• An estimate PDF: your name and your email address, plus the design you drew.
• The design, when you send one: the address you typed or picked, the latitude and longitude of the point on the map, the panel layout, and the production figures we worked out from them. While you draw, your browser sends the map point and the layout to our server to work out the estimate; nothing is kept from that unless you send a request.
• Our notes: when we call or write to you about your request, we keep short notes of what was said and where things stand.
• Server records: our web server logs the usual request line, which includes your IP address, your browser type, the pages you asked for and the page you came from. We use them to keep the site up and to look into problems.

The map point you choose is the location of a property, often your home. We use it only to work out production for that spot and to prepare your quote. We delete it 30 days after you send a request and keep the address you typed.

Cookies and analytics, only if you say yes. If you choose Allow analytics in our cookie notice we use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages help people and Google Ads to measure which of our ads bring people here. They set cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by an id, and _gcl_ followed by a suffix, on this site, and they send Google your IP address and the pages you view. We have ad personalization and data sharing with Google turned off: nothing we collect is used to show you ads elsewhere. If you choose No thanks, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, nothing loads. Change your mind any time with Cookies in the footer. Staff who sign in to our customer records get one sign-in cookie; nobody else does.

To answer you. Your details are used to prepare your estimate, to reply to your request, and to follow up by phone or email about the Lawn Lizard. Server records are used to run and secure the site.

To keep track of your request. Your request is kept in our customer record so the person who calls you back can see what you asked for and what we have already said.

We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising.

A quote request or an estimate request is stored in our customer record and emailed to our sales inbox, with your email address set as the reply-to so we can answer you directly. If our customer record cannot be written when you send a request, the request still reaches us by email; if that fails too, it is written to a holding file on our server so it is not lost, and moved into the record from there.

Our staff. Your request, your design and our notes are stored in a customer record on our own server. Only staff who sign in with their own account can see it, and sign-ins and every change are logged.

These are the services involved in running the site:

• Google Maps Platform (Google LLC), for address suggestions, geocoding, and the satellite and 3D imagery in the Lizard Layout Tool. Your browser talks to Google directly, so Google receives your IP address, what you type into the address box and the part of the map you are looking at, under Google’s Privacy Policy and Google’s Terms of Service.
• Google Analytics (Google LLC), only after you allow it in our cookie notice; see section 2.
• Google Ads (Google LLC), only after you allow it in our cookie notice; see section 2.
• PVGIS, the European Commission’s solar data service. Our server sends it coordinates and panel settings to work out production. It is never sent your name or your contact details.
• Open-Meteo, for ground elevation in the 3D view. Your browser sends it the map point’s coordinates, so it sees those and your IP address, and nothing else.
• Resend, which delivers the email carrying your request to us.
• The company that hosts our email, which stores the messages carrying your request.
• Amazon Web Services, which hosts the site. The server is in the United States.
• Our website contractor, who runs the server for us, receives a copy of each request so the site can be kept working, and may see requests while fixing a problem.

We also disclose information where the law requires it, such as a valid legal request.

Quote and estimate requests, the design you sent and our notes about them are kept in our customer record while we are working with you and for three years after our last contact, then deleted by a scheduled job. Copies in our backups are removed within 30 days of a deletion.

The map coordinates in a design are removed from our record 30 days after you send it, as Google’s terms require; the address you typed stays with the request.

Request rows in the holding file described in section 4 are moved into the customer record and cleared from the file every night.

The copy of your request in our email inbox is kept until you ask us to delete it or we clear our mailbox.

Server records are kept for about two weeks. Our own staff sign-in records are kept for 90 days.

You can ask us to delete what you sent at any time. See section 6.

Write to info@thelawnlizard.com or call 1-800-948-5390 to see what you sent us, correct it, or have it deleted, including the notes we made and the copy in our email. Say which email address you used so we can find it.

How we handle a request. We confirm we have it within ten business days and answer within 45 days, and tell you if we need more time. To make sure we are talking to the right person we will ask you to confirm the email address or phone number you gave us and one detail from your request, such as the address you drew your layout at. Someone you authorize may ask for you with your written permission. We will tell you what we did or why we could not.

California residents. If the California Consumer Privacy Act applies to us, it gives you the right to know what personal information we have collected about you, to have it deleted, to correct it, and not to be treated differently for asking. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. Use the same email address or phone number above to make a request.

We do not track you across other websites, so a Do Not Track signal from your browser changes nothing about what we do. We honor Global Privacy Control signals: a browser that sends one is treated as a no to analytics, whatever else it has chosen.

When you use the Lizard Layout Tool, Google may collect information about your use of Google services under its own policy, linked in section 4. That is Google’s collection, not ours, and we do not receive it.

Analytics and ads measurement run only with your permission; section 2 says what they measure.

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent us something, write to us and we will delete it.

The site is served over HTTPS, and the request records on our server are readable only by us. Staff sign in with individual accounts and passwords, and their sign-ins and every change to a customer record are logged. No method of transmission or storage is perfect, so please do not send us anything sensitive through the notes box.

If we ever learn that your information was exposed, we will tell you as the law requires.

If this policy changes we post the new text here with a new effective date, and for a material change we flag it at the top of this page for 30 days. The effective date of the text you are reading is at the top.
